TwitchUnity 2018 — One Year Later
Last year, we launched the first TwitchUnity Day, based off of one of our company values to “Welcome everyone.” It’s a site-wide holiday celebrating inclusivity and diversity on our streams, chats, apps, and community at large. Welcoming everyone is a value that we believe in and live by, not just by celebrating big events like TwitchUnity day, but by also taking it into consideration in our day to day work with creators, by providing tools to keep users safe from harassment, and working to strengthen the community bonds across Twitch.
Since last year’s event, we’ve added initiatives for Black History Month, Women’s History Month, and we’re excited to have plans in place for Pride Month in June (more info coming soonTM) — all under the TwitchUnity heading.
We hope you’ll join us to celebrate the one year anniversary of Twitch Unity, Friday, May 25th, as we host of number of wonderful creators on the front page from 10 am to 10 pm PT, during our Twitch Weekly takeover at 2 pm PT, in the TwitchUnity Community, and across social media under the #TwitchUnity hashtag.
You can get involved, too!
On May 25th, we encourage you to spend some time on your stream discussing what TwitchUnity means to you and the importance of representation. Plan your own show, event, or usual broadcast to celebrate in your own way, or, if you don’t know where to start, just fire up IRL and answer questions like:
Who inspired you to pursue gaming/content creation?
How has seeing content that represents you helped you feel more comfortable in the gaming/online space?
Which media (creators, shows, comics, video games etc.) hits home for you? Why?
What steps can the industry take to be more inclusive? How can you encourage fellow creators to set a good example for the next generation?
How can users be an ally in their day to day life? Where to go to learn more?
Tell us stories from your life on Twitch…or just share something from your heart about what it means to be a part of the Twitch community at large.
Participate and express yourself!
To signal that you’re participating in TwitchUnity, we recommend setting your stream to broadcast to the TwitchUnity Community and, if you like, download the TwitchUnity graphics package so you can also show your support on stream.
Even if you’re not a streamer yourself, there are plenty of ways for you to take part in celebrating TwitchUnity! Tune in to your favorite streamers in the TwitchUnity Community or, if you want to discover someone new, look for a selection of featured TwitchUnity streamers rotating on our front page all day! Don’t forget to also drop lots of TwitchUnity emotes to show your support of inclusion and diversity in chats all day and in to the future.
A very special thanks to our partners AshleyNova, Cupahnoodle, MiltyMilt, Cypheroftyr, Data_Dave, FrankThePegasus, RoryPlays, and Shamanom for their help in creating our TwitchUnity promotional videos.
