Science Week is coming, and it starts with COSMOS
In 1980, Dr. Carl Sagan took us beyond our own world and deep into the mysteries of the universe with the television show COSMOS: A Personal Voyage, on PBS. With a powerful message and outstanding special effects, the award-winning series was a watershed moment in nonfiction TV.
As host of the series, Dr. Sagan explored time, infinity, and the meaning of our lives, and he did it with depth, humor, and class.
We know a few things about depth, humor, and class here at Twitch, but let’s be real: Sagan does it best. That’s why we’re teaming up with COSMOS to kick off Science Week — five whole days of science-themed streams, running from Monday, April 24 through Friday, April 28. Come for the show, but stay for the insight from NASA, CosmoQuest, and special guest Ann Druyan, who co-created COSMOS together with her late husband, the astronomer, Carl Sagan.
An acclaimed author and television producer, Druyan won the Emmy for the 2014 follow-up, Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey. Additionally, Druyan served as the Creative Director of NASA’s Voyager Interstellar Message Project, which intended to communicate a story of our world to extraterrestrials.
Starting at noon PDT on 4/24, head over to [/Cosmos](https://www.twitch.tv/cosmos) to watch all 13 episodes of the acclaimed series back to back. Bring your brains. Bring some apple pie. But perhaps most importantly, bring some friends! If you’d like, you can co-stream the show to add your own commentary over COSMOS, or quietly enjoy it with only your own community members. To co-stream, all you have to do is set your “game” to COSMOS, tell your broadcast software to capture the stream on /Cosmos, and you’re good to go.
You know what sort of rhymes with COSMOS if you believe hard enough? Emotes! Subscribe to /Cosmos during Science Week and you’ll gain access to exclusive emotes to use as you please. In space, everyone can hear you meme.
We’re also running a Teespring campaign from 4/21 through 4/30. Check out that sweet design:
If you can’t catch COSMOS on Monday, no worries. We’ll play it again in its entirety near the end of the week. Following Science Week, we’ll stream the show weekly for quite some time.
Following the COSMOS marathon, we’re streaming tons of live interviews and Q&As with ridiculously smart members of the scientific community. All interviews will air on /Twitch at the times listed below:
Tue, 4/25, 1:00pm: Scott Manley (Astronomer and Kerbal Space Program gaming personality “Szyzyg”)
Wed, 4/26, 1:00pm roundtable: Phil Plait (Astronomer and founder of Syfy Wire’s ‘Bad Astronomy’ blog)

Wed, 4/26, 1:00pm roundtable: Kishore Hari (Director of Bay Area Science Festival, organizers for global March for Science)
Thu, 4/27, 1:00pm roundtable: Matthew Buffington (Director of Public Affairs at NASA’s Ames Research Center)

Fri, 4/28, 2:00pm: Ann Druyan (Co-creator of COSMOS)
We hope you’ll join us for Science Week starting on April 24. After all, “In all our searching, the only thing we’ve found that makes the emptiness bearable is each other.”
