Update to YouTube Exporter

Hey Broadcasters,

We’re constantly working hard to improve your experience on Twitch — for both live video and VoDs. This Thursday, December 6, we’re making a major change to our the YouTube Exporter that will streamline the VoD exporting process. The biggest change is that only highlights (as opposed to uncut broadcasts) will be available for export, but remember: you can always create a highlight of your entire broadcast.

Highlights + YouTube Exporter = BFFs You may recall a previous change to the YouTube Exporter that changed clip sizes on our archives from 2 hours to 30 minutes in length. While this changed allowed us to seamlessly merge archives into a single file for playback and highlighting, an unintended consequence was the YouTube exporter had difficulty processing multiple pieces of the archives, leading to an uptick in YouTube exporting errors for broadcasts with multiple pieces. This upcoming change ensures we are no longer at the whim of the YouTube exporter, and you will be able to get the exact content you want.

To export your archived content directly to YouTube, you’ll first have to create a highlight of your archived broadcast. Broadcasters attempting to export uncut broadcasts will be prompted to create a highlight of the content they wish to export. You can create a highlight of your entire broadcast, or just a small piece.

Enhanced VOD Promotion An additional benefit to this change is extra promotion. Soon, we’ll feature highlights in more places around the site, such as the videos feed page, as well as the videos list on our new channel pages. Thanks for bearing with us while we revamp our infrastructure to better support the requests we’ve received for a more robust VOD system.

We hope you enjoy these streamlined changes to the YouTube Exporter. As always, please feel free to let us know your thoughts and any feedback you have on improving the YouTube exporter.

Sincerely,

The Twitch Team
